"One does not become enlightened by imagining figures of light, but by making the darkness conscious."
~~C.G. Jung
The Dark Night of the Soul as explored by St. John of the Cross of Spain explores the moment of consciousness when one lets go of all manifest reality to allow the submersion of self into the eternal expression of spirit.
For many people, the dark night of the soul has come to mean those moments of deep depression and darkness that happen as one waits for the return of light and joy in one's life. Whenever we suffer and do not know the reason it becomes a dark night of the soul. For some it truly is a spiritual journey. For others, it is a journey from mental illness to mental health. For all, it is a time when faith whether in the divine or in self becomes the only supporting ideation that maintains survival.
The true expression of the dark night is a passive event. It is those moments of realization that a dichotomy in life has approached us that cannot be solved by logic and only through letting go of active will and submerging oneself into waiting alone in the dark for the dawn to come bursting forth with new insight and understanding.
Most of our existence is really based upon an understanding that we exist in a state of dichotomy and our search to resolve these and the resultant knowledge is our moment of epiphany.
Love versus hate!
Good versus evil!
You versus me!
Spirit versus material!
Yin versus Yang!
Black versus white!
Darkness versus Light!
The metaphor of the Dark Night of the Soul is the message of being still and waiting versus being active. As with the symbolism of the Tao or Yin Yang inherent in the light is the understanding of the dark and inherent in the dark is the understanding of the light.
Thus man can be seen through the seed of man that is in God and God can be seen through the seed of God that is in man.
Without the darkness of the night we would not be able to enter the bosom of spirit and recognize our own divinity. Without the light the divine cannot enter our material world and recognize it's humanity.
Today: Walk in the light but do not fear the dark. It is here that you will find your enlightenment!
Watching yourself is the key to your transformation. Be in a let go, allow things to happen as they come.
Use your intelligence and learn from what you watch in yourself.
That will do.
