' Seeking in all aspects '...
Seeking doesn’t happen only in the context of enlightenment. It is your constant companion. Notice the ways in which you look for some future moment, avoiding what is in this moment.
When you are brushing your teeth in the morning, are you thinking about when you will be done so that you can brush your hair or get to work? When you are driving to work, are you thinking about arriving at work or what you will do tonight after work? When you arrive at work, are you thinking about lunch, the finishing of a project, or the end of the day?
When you are doing chores around the house, are you thinking about getting the chores done? Does your day feel like one entire movement forward? If so, all of that is seeking energy. Seeking energy is not good or bad. It is just not true that something should be happening other than what is happening. Suffering arises when we live in illusion.
There is an old Zen saying, “Before enlightenment, chop wood, carry water . . . after enlightenment, chop wood, carry water.” So what is the difference? The difference is that, in enlightenment, the dream self who believes it must constantly think about what is going to happen next falls away. Life is lived much more easily--without the false idea that you have control and that something must be happening other than what is happening.
