The Name...
"The Name alone is the Truth,
O Ravidas, It was true in the beginning and
shall remain true in the end. It destroyeth all
sins and sufferings, and is, indeed, the mine of
all true Bliss.
Steeped in meditation with one-pointed
attention, practice devotion to God, O Ravidas.
Let the automatic repetition be continued within,
reverberating Sat Naam.
When surat merges into the Shabda,
and becomes one with It, then one obtains the
Supreme Bliss. The lamp burns inside, O
Ravidas, and Divine Bliss arises within."
Ravidas (1398? - 1448?)
(Ravidas_ means servant of the Sun. _Sat Naam_ means "the Name is Truth
(Reality). "When Surat merges into the Shabda" means when attention
(consciousness) is absorbed in the Name. _Surat_ also signifies the Sun above
the sun, that is, the Light of God. Consciousness is in reality this Light.
Ravidas was a Sikh who practiced Surat Shabd Yoga. The best known teacher of
Surat Shabd Yoga in the West was Kirpal Singh. The Sikh mantra for this age is
EK ONG KAR SAT NAM SIRI WHA GURU. Yogi Bhajan explains it here:
