' Thought is similar to a sense '...

You experience the present reality of life through the sense of smell. Yet it would be ridiculous to suggest that you should close off all other senses and only smell the present reality. You experience the present reality of life through the sense of sight. Yet it would be silly to suggest that you should close off all other senses in favor of sight only.

You experience life through taste and touch. Yet it would make little sense to choose taste or touch as a way to experience the present reality to the exclusion of all other senses. Experiencing the present reality of life through only one sense is a partial view of reality.

Thought is similar to a sense. When thought is taken to be reality rather than just another way of experiencing the present reality, the being dream of a separate self arises. You totally believe the whole story of thought, including its interpretations, beliefs, ideas, religions, philosophies, judgments, opinions, and personal motivations. The exclusive experiencing of life through only the ‘sense’ of thought presents a partial view of reality.

There is something here, call it awareness, that is aware of thoughts as temporary appearances in reality. This awareness knows that thought is a limited, partial view of life. In seeing thought as similar to a sense, there can be a waking up out of the exclusive, partial viewing of life through thought.
