The ego attachment...

We sit in the ego with all its limitations as in a prison and we do not know that we are prisoners, for we identify ourselves with it and blind ourselves by those very limitations.

It is there and it has to be there, but it need not be there to imprison us or to narrow our outlook.

The ego imprisons us, for instance, with its memories which keep us steeped in the past when the wisdom of the spirit is to live in the eternal now--which is all we have in reality and which alone is real for neither past nor future possess any reality.
