I once had a sparrow alight upon my shoulder for a moment, while I was hoeing in a village garden, and I felt that I was more distinguished by that circumstance that I should have been by any epaulet I could have worn.
Henry David Thoreau
US Transcendentalist author (1817 - 1862)

I felt like this once about a year ago. There was a sparrow in the grass. I walked right up to it and it didn't fly away. I bent down and picked it up in my hand. After a couple minutes it flew away. Maybe it was stunned or something, because I don't know why it would let me pick it up.
